Y'all know what people I would trust with my life no matter what the circumstances were? The people who you let cross the street- and they wave and then HUSTLE across the road. Like they've got their arms for torque and only touch the tips of their shoes on pavement. #appreciationpost

In regards of my upcoming graduation from Mississippi College, I figured I'd do some sort of a nice little tie up of my experiences in Mississippi. Time at the Misty Morning house has come to an end. Here are some things I learned.

Things that I didn't realize were so great until I no longer had them

  • When you are putting in your Louisiana address for something, if you type an "L", Louisiana pops up so easily. With a MS address, you have to type M and then unclick Maine and scroll all the way through again to find MS.

  • PJs doesn't exist here. I never attained peace with this travesty.

  • Restaurants don't have Tony Chacheres

  • LSU gear not as welcome here

  • constantly getting chastised for my LSU debit card

  • can't buy liquor on Sundays or after midnight on weekdays OR on election days

  • not even bc you want to get turnt, but bc its 1am when you finally leave the library and you need something to counteract the 8 espresso shots you took that day

  • mardi gras break existing

Best study spots ranked in order of greatness

library basement

perks:

  • you're in a basement so no sense of time/weather.

  • Raining outside--> perfect nap weather? go to the basement.

  • Beautiful sun set or perfectly sunny weather? go to the basement so that you don't even think about enjoying your day.

  • usually can find your friends nearby (misery loves company)

  • has coffee place within

  • open late! usually until 1am

  • decently sized square tables

  • not freezing cold like most libs

cons:

  • hard to find a padded chair. I spend many hours in a seated position y'all. My tush prefers the cozy chairs.

  • usually can find your friends nearby (can't have ppl you like around when trying to focus). must deprive self of joy.

  • lady who works the coffee place is an absolute horror and once yelled at me for taking napkins without asking properly.

  • they kick you out at 1am :/

  • both outlets in the last study room and the table on the back wall don't work

  • they have a few random circle tables interspersed. I just do not understand circle tables. Are my books circle shaped? is my laptop circle shaped?

  • THE "NURSING STUDENTS". Not the throw shade, but there is a group 4 or 5 nursing students that come to the library solely for giggle time -I swear.

  • closed on holidays - rude

Histo Lab

perks:

  • you feel slightly bada$$ bc you KNOW you aren't actually in a histo class but you stay anyway. no? just me?

  • the besttttt chairs. adjustable height. has some give. legit desk chairs.

  • clean large workspace.

  • close proximity to gross lab in case you need to go check a connection.

  • stadium seating

  • stays open for as long as your little heart desires.

  • huge white boards perfect for drawing out pathways/ blood supplies

cons:

  • it's almost too comfortable.

  • can get whiffs of formaldehyde

  • microscopes getting in yo way!

  • don't have the "quiet area" signs like in the lib so ppl tend to get into long winded convos - killing productivity rates.

Lobby

perks:

  • chairs are bomb. better than lib but not quite as great as histo lab.

  • hugeeeee work space wide and open work space

  • outlets are far away and you need super long cords so always come if charged up

  • memories of my first semester w the OG crew

  • also open whenever you need

cons:

  • through a walk space so expect to get interrupted 84 times/hr

  • there's this one guy that just walks back and forth across the way. he never stays put. it gives me anxiety.

  • there's another dude who come late at night to play Tetris. this one just doesn't make sense. I swear this is real life.

  • double doors that let in breezes (especially sucky in winter)

  • almost always a lightbulb that flickers in the back left corner.

Coffee shops ranked in order of greatness

Cups

Perks:

  • baristas are mostly a joy. The new guy "bandana man" is the only one we, as a whole, are still a little uneasy about.

  • playlists are usually fire. I even downloaded one of them for my own Spotify so I can have the cups experience wherever my heart wishes.

  • ginger cookies

  • Ethiopian yergacheffe

  • FEF: have I told y'all about this yet? Cups just gives you free espresso shots on Fridays. All Fridays. for free. espresso. elixir of the gods. just because. say whattttt????? i'l take six.

  • Splashes: This is what I will miss the most. it is free coffee! is this place actually called Heaven but they just call it "cups" to keep from the major movements of people and the almost eminent tourism crowd? yes.

  • just have to bring your own cup, ask for a "splash", and they are like "okay! **huge smile" and fill it up with drip coffee of your choice. It still blows my mind. Am I stealing? I don't think there is a splash limit either. I've done it four times in a day once. no side eye or nothin'

cons:

  • sometimes too packed and can't find a spot. bc its awesome

  • can't do any real studying here bc there almost always a very emphatic bible study going on in each corner. It is good for radiographs/flahscard/cross section/blogging days when you don't need much focus and can listen to your music

  • closes at 10 but dumps out drip coffee 5-10 mins before. I've, on multiple occasions, ran from wherever I was noticing the clock said 9:45. Med Sci kids always just flood the place right before close. Sometimes called the "last voyage" of the evening. always a good time. We don't have a problem.

Starbucks

perks:

  • a barista told me to have a good day once?

cons:

  • workers are all lazy and sassy AF

  • loud

  • unpleasant

  • coffee sucks

  • seriously just don't go here

Places to go if you just "HAVE TO GET OUT OF CLINTON TODAY"

  • M7 in Madison

  • baristas kind of suck at espresso drinks

  • always -84 degrees and snowing inside

  • not in the city of Clinton though

  • has a conference room which is a great group study area. You can use it if it isn't booked out!

  • anything in Madison makes you feel bougie

  • CC's coffee house in Ridgeland

  • really short hours but great for day study near a big window to make you feel like you are living life

  • also has a conference room that you can use if not booked up

  • this is my little secret room. only putting it up here bc I'm leaving and nobody can steal it from me anymore :)

  • Cups in Jackson

  • less friendly staff but same great coffee beans

  • near a popular bar so if you study late you can watch all the people with more exciting lives pass in front of the window.

  • always an open table

  • the bathroom door is tricky y'all. I once got stuck inside the bathroom for nearly ten minutes. Didn't have my phone to call so ended up having to knock from the inside and having a really concerned fellow coffee shop patron open it up for me.

  • Sneaky beans in Jackson

  • they do coffee tabs! just get a mug of coffee and start a tab. Its $1 each refill and you just pay at the end.

  • they also serve beer

  • I've studied all day, ran up a tab, and then finished w a beer. An all over great multipurpose space. gotta mix the uppers and downers.

  • Target

  • you won't get anything productive done here but it is good for the soul

Random extra life-in-Clinton tips:

  • don't have to live at the reserves to use the reserves' pool

  • fresh market has 50% off chicken breasts on all Tuesdays

  • the Clinton sonic makes you pay PER LEMON WEDGE. I'm not joking. its the dumbest thing I've ever heard. THIRTY CENTS PER LEMON WEDGE. I used to love getting a huge water w lemon but over my cold and dead formaldehyde pumped body will I order that here.

  • beautiful running route along the natchez trace. entry point it up near Ridgeland.

  • If you run North, you'll have more of an elevation challenge ahead of you and cross over some major roads. Southbound is more flat and shaded.

  • woodmore is a safe place to run during the day but dangggggg talk about hilly and uneven terrain. only perk is visiting my turtle buddy, Trevon.

  • never did figure out the Kroger gas points. sorry can't help there.

  • get your flu shot for free from the nursing students

  • pretty sure the hibachi express place uses meat from roadkill.

  • the bakery has a point reward system so you can get free cupcakes if you have a sugar problem like me.

  • the "authentic taco place" everyone talks about: the ppl in there literally only speak Spanish and aren't even slightly decent in charades. Always take a spaniard along w if needing tacos ordered.

  • trash days are Mon and Thursday. You will forget every Mon and Thurs. bet

  • stop trying to achieve a normal sleep schedule. not worth disappointing yourself.

  • all the group classes at the healthplex are absolutely worthless.

  • You will learn more than you have combined in your 20-25 years of education in your first Bourassa class and will absolutely sing his praises.

  • KROGER COOKIES Y'ALL: go to the back right corner- between the bread and the seafood counter. They have these little square boxes of turtle brownie cookies. OH MAH GAWD.

Happy Birthday Jeremy!
