Oh my word. Today was in the top three of ones I have had since being abroad. I ate this magically delicious granola/cereal mix called “vogels” and yes I have already bought a box to take back to Sydney with me. I mixed it with some uber natural acidophilus plain yogurt that comes in a tiny milk carton. Ms Rachel has some bomb a$$ taste buds I tell ya.
I then knocked out another essay for secondarys, which Mallory so graciously edited for me. When then felt we deserved a nap and Molly was more than happy to join. When we awoke Mallory said that she now wants an indoor dog bc they are soooooo snuggly. Well, yeah! Molly is rather fond of Mallory and serves as her foot heater for most of our time.
We filled the car with Ms. Rachel, Andrew (A train), Mallory, Molly, and me and headed off to Raglan. First to check off of the list was Fish & Chips as we were all starving and this dish is a NZ staple. We ordered it from a little fish shack on the wharf. It came with a gorgeoussssss view and adorable cans of tomato sauce. Yeah, I’ve given up on ketchup being widely available. It no longer strikes anger in my heart, too much anyways. We also discovered a murder mystery. Mallory and I went to walk Molly a bit down the wharf where we found a cool jelly and an unidentifiable thing floating in the water. We decided it had to be of native knowledge so we ran back for Atrain and Ms. Rachel. They then had a heated discussion on what it could be. Eventually, we agreed that it must be a Padeep. This would a mixture of a possum, a dog, and a sheep. We even gave it a jingle of being “padeep from the deep” and the “mystery of the sea”. Now dad, Raglan is the single place in my entire life that I have paid for seafood and ENJOYED IT. Actually, I didn’t even pay for it as Ms. Rachel is an absolute blessing and treats us almost everywhere we go. What a sweet heart, really. Anyways, we had a spread of snapper and a NZ fish called “teraheki”. This blows my mind bc my stems background tells me that “terra” means land and “heki” means….jk I have no idea what that means hahah but anyways it is indeed a fish. It is served with aoli and tomato sauce in these ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE little cans. It was so fresh and genuinely delicious. The teraheki was my favorite but the snapper wasn’t anything short of yum itself. The beach that we ate near was also neighboring a children’s playground so, naturally, we all headed over and had a ball on the see-saws.
Have you ever seen black sand? Mallory and I have! It is so against your brain that it kinda trips you up. We were here just in time for sunset and had a nice walk along the beach while Molly had the time of her life running up and down the coast line. The water was freezing but Ms. Rachel made us put our feet in it so that we got the fully experience. I’m glad she did. It wasn’t as cold as we imagined and it was a nice time. Wrap that all up with a coffee and piece of dark chocolate and call it a day. Lets just do an over view here. My dad consisted of a nap, productivity, yummy food, natural wonders, beautiful landscapes, amazing company, a dog, fresh caught fish, coffee, and chocolate. That is a day that is rather hard to beat in America and I am in NEW ZEALAND for god’s sake! This is all so amazing. I think I’ll go cuddle with Molly and soak this in for a bit longer before I go hit the hay and prepare for another day of amazing awesomeness. PROSIT!
