Last Friday:
I am currently at gate 52 of the Sydney airport and boy do I want to just sprawl out on this nasty floor and take a nap. It is 5:45 am and I slept a total of 1.5 hours. With working late and medical school secondary applications, my days have been super long. It is Vic's bday this weekend, though, and we are celebrating by hitting the road with a couple of other friends in order to see the Great Ocean Road and everything that comes along with it. I'm afraid that all of these road trips may make adjusting back to the right side slightly difficult. I am already noticing myself staying on the left side of the sidewalk without having to think of it. Oh. Here it is. I'm assimilating. The American is fading, noooooooooooooo.
I'm super curious as to what I have in this backpack of mine. My whole weekend is in there. I was so exhausted after work that I had to call my dad to talk to me because I was seriously considering taking a quick nap in a nearby parking lot bc the walk home seemed way too far. Once I got home, I plopped myself in bed, still in my work clothes, nasty as hell, and set my alarm for 2 hours. When it was time to wake up, I thought mother nature was playing a cruel joke on me. If I had to get up for ANY OTHER reason than a vacation to see amazing natural wonders....I would've went straight back to bed. But alas. I made it to the shower like a blind man without a walking stick and even shaved my legs - I'm scared to check how awful of a job I did on that. Thank god I am wearing pants and don't have to find out quite yet. So anyways, I packed for this trip in about 10 minutes while wet and in a daze. I probably have like 8 pairs of socks and a jacket in there. Who knows. Not me. Too early. You can check, however, if I am in the same outfit for all of the pictures. Then you'll know...and so will all of my travel friends.
After the great ocean road, we will spend a day on Phillip Island. This place has been on my bucket list since before I left America. You get to see....wait for it... PENGUINS! but not just penguins! MINI PENGUINS! They just waddle up the shore. I can hardly wait. sha babies. We will hopefully get to see goats and koalas. It's really all about those cute little nugget -guinz though.
I think I'm about to go grab a banana smoothie.
Thursday:
two updates on that^^. (1) I was actually supposed to be at gate 49 - Aint that hilarious. I made my flight though, don't worry your lil heart. (2)I did get that banana smoothie and it was divine.
The flight was fine and, after a ton of rental car issues, I was able to meet up with Ash, Josh, and Vic. On to the Great Ocean Road! This road trip is famous for a reason. Likely one of the most scenic drives you can take. It alternated between vast farm land, seaside cliffs, and rainforest all within a 3 hours stretch. The pictures that I do have from the GORoad took much effort. Oi Vae.

Tina, you fat lard, come get some dinner

Vic dropped her coffee again...poor thing.
The city of Melbourne, which we visited after the drive, was adorable in all capacities. They have free trams within the CBD which makes life for visitors much easier. Street art was beautiful and spread out in little alley ways throughout town. ACDC lane, however, was my favorite of course! Shoutout to my Daddy! I got this fire picture, thanks Vic! It was in Melbourne that I tried my first asian dumpling, had a lovely peanut butter cookie, and enjoyed walking through an amazingly breathtaking cathedral. BTW. I did indeed pack one set of clothes- for a four day span. I'm so dimwitted sometimes. This was a great excuse to buy a sundress in one of the precious lane way shops in the city. There were cafes and cafes and cafes along the edges. It literally looked like heaven and smelled like coffee- which I think is what heaven smells like. Vic and I both bought little dresses as it was her birthday and I was just out of clothes, hehe. I am so obsessed with this dress. I feel so notebook-y in it. Although, I think Sarah would tell me that I look like a teacher and wouldn't have let me buy it anyway. I'll probably wear it every other day until I leave now.

ACDC Lane
I am now failing epicly at making dirt cake for Vic and Ingrid's bday celebration. Turns out the Aussie substitutes don't quite make the cut. We shall see how it turns out. Time for me to go get all dolled up and ready to hit the town!
Sunday:
The birthday party was a success. We went to a place called Ivy. I also can claim this as the first time I was kicked out of a bar. I was PHYSICALLY REMOVED from a bar. I get a strange sense of pride from this bc it makes me seem so rebellious and young but it was because i wasn't wearing my shoes. Like whatttt. This would never happen in America. Let freedom ring, dangit.
I am now suffering from the weirdest medical condition ever. I swear, it is the strangest thing I've ever experienced. I blame the Deroche genes for having a bounty of medical issues. We "think" I popped blood vessels in my eyes. Both of them. Wanna see a picture? Okay. Well, since you asked.

It doesn't hurt at all. Just feels like I have my eyes dilated. I've been told it should go away within 3 days to 3 weeks. I'm telling y'all, If I have to be like this for 3 weeks I will freak. I'm already staying in my room all the time bc anytime I go out in public people think I am dying to try to call an ambulance for me. I've already been to the doctor. I'm all good. I promise. It just looks awful. I now wear my sunglasses everywhere. I hate this because it is a pet peeve of mine for people to wear sunglasses indoors. I feel like everyone things I had a bad batch of meth or am extremely hungover all the time. It's pretty crap.
Worst thing about it though, is that it came a week too early. Halloween is NEXT Saturday, geez louise.
SPEAKING of upcoming Halloween! I am so stoked that (1) I get to work on Halloween night and see everyones costumes and (2) If it is Halloween that means that Mallory is already here!
Have I mentioned that yet?!? Mallory is coming to visit me in Australia. To say I am counting down the minutes is no exaggeration. I am so excited to have a piece of home with me and to be able to show someone around this amazing city! Her flight is actually leaving on Tuesday but she won't get here until Thursday. Aint that cray? Mallory has always wanted to be a villain for Halloween so the Batman/Joker combo was suggested. She ended up going with Robin though as the costume is much cheaper for him rather than the joker. Still equally cool. Maybe you could be a villainous Robin, Mal? I could be all bloody and WAIT OMG we can use my eye condition as the story that you poisoned me or punched me in the face and are now a crazy evil person. Genius, I know. It's settled. Ah. Wait. I'll be wearing a mask. Ah. wait. It will still have eye holes. Cool. This is good.
